Mission Knives & Tools, Inc: Saltwater Corrosion Test
5-30-97 Report

Continuously soaked in sea water for all of these past three months. For both photos of all four knives, I let them air dry first, for MK3MOD0 photos, I used a wire brush to clean the rust off. What I noticed was that the pitting has "eaten" its way almost completely through the blade (both sides)!

  1. Mission Knives MPK - No signs of corrosion.
  2. Ontario Navy MK3 MOD0 - Rust appears to be deeper and there appears to be more and deeper pitting. In fact, the pitting has "eaten" its way almost completely through the blade (both sides)!
  3. Ontario USMC Combat Knife - Leather has swelled. HEAVY, HEAVY coat of rust over the entire knife, including pommel, and, what appears to be a "flaking" effect. Pitting is setting in. Guard continues to rust, as does pommel. A "powder" coat of rust has formed that can be knocked off with tapping the blade against something hard.
  4. Ontario Air Force Survival - Leather has swelled.
